This game update includes the following changes:

Launcher Updates

  • The Launcher will now show the Base Game version number instead of the highest installed expansion or stuff pack.

Base Game Updates

  • Added a new spiral staircase object.
  • Added a new ladder object.
  • Added a new modular arch object.
  • Added a set of new Stilted Foundation objects.
  • Lots can now be partially placed on water.
  • Holding down the Alt key while dragging out a foundation will now make a single step height foundation.
  • Sims can now purchase additional homes using the Real Estate system.
  • Sims can now move to a new Town using the Phone or Computer.
  • New Pool Blueprints have been added.
  • Players will now have more control positioning their lot when importing a lot from the bin to a larger empty lot.

Ambitions Updates

  • Fixed a crash that occurs when selling a Sculpting Station and sculpture then clicking the Undo button.
  • Makeover Room UI for the Stylist Profession now shows the correct text for non-English territories.

Showtime Updates

  • Games that are saved when paused will now correctly load paused.
  • Online In game messages now have headers to explain who the comment came from and where it was directed.

Supernatural Updates

  • Sims will no longer freeze when trying to Awaken Bonehilda on Bonehilda’s Coffin.
    The Durasoft Rocking Chair now has correct functionality in Aurora Skies regardless of The Sims 3: Supernatural installation.

University Life Updates

  • Sims can now ask their romantic interests to be roommates.
  • The ‘Invite to be Roommate’ social is now appropriately available only with The Sims 3: University Life installed.
  • PlantSims downloaded from the exchange can now use their powers and have the appropriate needs.
  • Love letters received at University are no longer converted into unusable bills when returning to home world.
  • Skill gain speeds influenced by the Increased Understanding moodlet have been corrected and are no longer ‘insanely fast’.
  • Photos taken from the smartphone while at University are now moved to the inventory upon returning to the home world.
  • The Murphy Bed has been made less lethal.
  • Sims in the Sports Agent career can now Negotiate Contracts without receiving any errors.
  • Sims invited to graduation are no longer duplicated in the relationship panel.
  • Roommates in the home world have been motivated and will now autonomously leave the house and go to work.
  • Teens who have maximum influence with a social group will now get the appropriate career opportunity when they age up.
  • Sims that skip class activities or lecture halls will no longer have their needs frozen.
  • Children can no longer gain influence with social groups.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur when installing store content while audio is playing.
  • The ‘Keep Me Logged In’ feature on the launcher has been fixed to work with the latest patch.
  • The Art Appraiser and Sports Agent careers are no longer available through cheats without The Sims 3: University Life installed.
  • Sims selecting the Education Career will now start at a higher career level if they have completed a degree from The Sims 3: University Life.
  • Having a PlantSim in a household and then uninstalling The Sims 3: University Life will no longer cause some PlantSim features to remain.
  • Care Packages will now correctly show up in the gifting tabs.
  • All Sims attending a protest in a group now have access to Podium interactions and will all receive the appropriate moodlet when the Protest finishes.
  • The Social Networking Skill statistic: ‘Total Simoleans Earned from Blog Donations and Buyouts’ now updates correctly in the Skill Journal.
  • When a Sim is en route to class in the University world, the corresponding tooltip now appropriately describes where they are going.
  • Selling a Bowling Lane from the Family Inventory and then clicking the Undo button will now correctly remove the Bowling Lane object from the world.
  • The wish “Play Sports at the Stadium” wish now fulfills correctly.
  • Sims in the University world will no longer get the wish “Talk About new Job”.

70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff

  • 80’s prom dress now appears under formal wear

Store Updates

  • Users who have a large amount of Store content installed will no longer experience their content disappearing from the launcher
  • Store Sets can now be purchased on the Main Menu.

Last week I was taking part in a giveaway EA is holding on the official forums and on twitter/facebook. Each day they give out some goodie bags.

On friday we had to post a picture of our Sims relaxing. Even though I didn’t feel like turning on my computer at night, I didn’t wanna pass on a chance to win something and I was rewarded. I was among the winners.

Today, a mere 3 day later (with a weekend in between) I get my package. That was really fast, especially considering it had to cross the ocean.

Issue

There are two reasons why the game won’t recognize your graphics card properly

To check if the game recognizes your card, open the file [userdata folder]\DeviceConfig.log with any text editor.

You need to search for this section

=== Graphics device info ===
Number: 0
Name (driver): <Name of your Graphics Card>
Name (database): <Name of your Graphics Card> [Found: 0, Matched: 1]

Important is the Found behind your graphics card. If it says Found: 0, then your card is not properly recognized.

Solution

Your card is too new

Please refer to this article at the MTS Wiki: Game Help:Getting new graphics cards recognized by the game

Please make sure to backup your original files. You will need to replace them with the originals before you patch or install an EP and then put yours back after the process. Check if EA hasn’t added your card themselves before putting your file back.

Patching Instructions if you did this

  1. Make sure you have a copy of your edited files somewhere safe.
  2. Make a copy of the GraphicCards.orig file to your desktop from wherever you stored it.
  3. Make a copy of the GraphicsRules.orig file to your desktop from wherever you stored it.
  4. Rename both files so that they have the .sgr extension: GraphicCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr
  5. Move the files from the Desktop to [installation directory]\thesims3\Game\Bin
  6. Patch the game and/or install the EP.
  7. Copy the edited GraphicCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files from wherever you stored them to the following directory: [installation directory]\thesims3\Game\Bin

You have two graphics cards

Depending on the type of graphics card you want your system to use, the approach is slightly different.

Nvidia

  1. Right-click on your desktop and choose Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Click on Manage 3D settings.
  3. Click on the Program Settings tab if its not already selected.
  4. Step 1: Select TS3W.exe. Use the Add button to get it since it usually doesn’t show up in the drop-down list on its own. You find the file in [installation directory]\thesims3\Game\Bin
  5. Step 2: Select High-Performance Nvidia Processor.

NVidia1

Radeon

  1. Right-click and choose Configure switchable graphics.
  2.  A window opens that will allow you to choose that card for whatever programs you want.
  3. Make sure the check box in this window that says show a pop up warning for unassigned applications is checked
  4. The next time you run the game, a pop up should open and let you designate the better graphics card for the game.

What is Dragon Valley ?

Dragon Valley (DV) is a world which you can buy in the Sims 3 Store. The theme is medieval and has baby Dragons.

How do I buy Dragon Valley ?

Dragon Valley can only be bought as part of a Simpoint bundle on thesims3.com. In August 2013 it will also be released retail on DVD and through Origin. There is no option to gift Dragon Valley or buy it with Simpoints.

What’s the difference between the versions ?

Dragon Valley is offered as gold or as standard bundle. The standard bundle costs $25.00 and contains the world, the dragons and other items and 100 SP, the gold bundle cost $35.00 and contains the world, the dragons and other items, the Celtic lands set + 1900 Simpoints. The DVD will only contain the world, the dragons and the items from the standard version

Does the gold version not contain a venue ?

The venue The Duke of Bows Renaissance Faire, which contains the premium content Archer’s Gauntlet and a Violin is not part of the gold bundle but with the 1900 Simpoints you get, you can buy the venue.

Which payment options do I have ?

You can either use your credit card, paypal or your EA Account Balance

I live in a country where I can only buy Simpoints through Origin. Is there any way to buy Dragon Valley ?

If you can add funds to your EA account, you should be able to (see above). If not, you need to wait until it comes out retail. It should be buyable through Origin then.

Where do you find my world after buying ?

The world can be download from the world page or your purchase history

Can I buy the premium content on it’s own ?

No, the premium content is part of the world/venue and can’t be bought on it’s own. If you bought the world/venue, you can download and install them separately though. You only need to download one of the Dragons. The files are all the same.

Which dragons exists and what is the difference ?

There’s 4 different dragons: Red dragon, Green dragon, Purple dragon und Armored Black Dragon. Each dragon has a different skill. You can only have one dragon of each color in your inventory at any given time but you can have many of them on your lot. They don’t fly away or die. I don’t think you can sell the dragons.

You have to name them to make sure that they stay on your lot and are not taken by random NPCs. Make sure you don’t have a dragon of the same color already in your inventory or you can’t name them.

Black Dragons are special since you only get them if you have the world and the venue installed.

Where do I get the dragons ?

Dragons hatch from eggs which can be bought for only §395 in pets – misc. There are some already pre-placed in the world as well.

Dragon eggs need around 6 hours to hatch. A sim needs to talk to the egg to start the hatching process. It’s important that you don’t have the egg in your inventory when it’s about to hatch (you’ll get a message) or the dragon can’t be found anywhere afterwards.

The color of dragon you get depends on the topic you choose when talking to the dragon.

Can I use dragons in other worlds ?

Yes you can. For the black dragons it’s enough to have the venue and the world installed. You don’t need to place the venue or play in Dragon Valley.

Why isn’t the Celtic lands in my purchase history ?

You need to buy the gold version. If you did that, Celtic lands is included in the dragon valley file. Just install that and all will be in your game. The set can also be downloaded separately here: Celtic lands.

EA does not have any plans to offer the set separately.

Is there a festival lot for Dragon Valley ?

Any known bugs ?

Do I need to update my mods ?

No, that should not be necessary. Only unofficial StoreFixes need updating.

Introduction

The ingame store is a feature which lets you buy Store content from within the game. Since patch 1.29 you also get special deals directly inside the Build and Buy mode as well as in CAS

Steps

To be able to use the ingame store, you need to turn it on first.

Activation

You can set the ingame store in two ways. You can either check the option Enable Shop Mode in the options in game

or you can turn it on/off in the options:

  • Open the file [user data directory]\Options.ini with notepad (or any other editor)
  • Search for the following line: enableingamestore = and put 0 to turn the ingame store off and 1 to turn it on.
  • Save the file
  • Start the game

Ingame Store

To enter the ingame shop, either click F4 or click on the symboly with the shopping bag.

In the appearing window, you can navigate the store like you would on the webpage. You need  to login to buy or download your stuff To see what you own and what you have installed ingame, you can click on purchase history or start the Dashboard by clicking on the button in the upper right corner. You can download the stuff you own directly to your game.

To turn on advanced rendering, set a check next to Turn on Advanced Rendering in the game options ingame.

Another option is to edit the options.ini file in the user data director

Open the file in a text editor like NotePad and look for the following line.

To turn on advanced rendering, set the value to 1. This means, if there’s a 0 right now, change it to 1, save the file and you’re done.

Translating this code from simlish gives us a latin text which starts with Lorem Ipsum, a text commonly used as placeholder in new blogs or to show of templates or other reasons. Nothing really interesting.

The text has now been changed to names: Rachel Franklin (SimGuruRachel), Jill Johnson (SimGuruJill), Aaron Cohen (SimGuruAaron), Lyndsay Pearson (SimGuruLynday). Kevin Hogan (SimGuruKevin), Grant Rodiek (SimGuruGrant), Azure Bowie (SimGuruAzure),  Stephanie Tran (SimGuruSteph)

Sometimes you feel like changing the language that you chose on installation.

The language your Sims speak can’t be changed, that’s simlish. This tutorial is about the text messages and the user interface.

Conditions

Not all languages are available in all versions. The DVD Region 1 only contains English, Spanish and French, Region 2 has a few more but I’m unsure whether it has any of the Asian languages. If you can install the game in a certain language, you can use it.

I’m unsure how it works for the download version atm but I’ll add the info as soon as I have it.

Language settings of the expansions

If you newly install an expansion or stuff pack, you can’t choose the language. The expansion is automatically installed in the language the base game is in (as long as it’s available on the source). The language of the installation routine does not matter for the language of the game.

If you manually change the language in the registery, you need to change it for all expansions you have installed.

Methods

To change the language you have three options

Re-install your game

Uninstall and install the game again. Choose the new language

Change the language in the Windows Registery

Please only change stuff in the registery if you feel qualify to do so. Changing the wrong values can mess up your game and/or Windows.

RegisteryLocale

  1. Start the registery editor with regedit
  2. Backup the registery with File – Export
  3. Click on the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  4. Click on the arrow next toSOFTWARE
  5. 64-Bit Systems: Click on the arrow next toWOW6432NODE
  6. Click on the arrow next to SIMS
  7. Click on The Sims 3
  8. Double-click on Locale on the right-hand side
  9. Change the value to the language you want your game in (values see below)
  10. I don’t know if the value under Country needs changing too. Mine is set to CH and I play in English and I have no issues.
  11. Repeat 6-10 for all folders in SIMS (Expansions)
  12. Close the registery editor.
  13. Start the game. Your user files, including saves will be gone now as if you’ve renamed the user folder.
  14. Close the game and go to documents\electronicArts. You should have two folder in here now. One in your old language and one in the new one. To recover your old savegames and user files, simply copy the files from the old language over to the new one.
  15. Start the game. All your old saves and user data will be back.
  16. Enjoy.

Use the tool AnyGameStarter

The Usage of the tool AnyGameStarter has the advantage that you can have several profiles in several languages.

Problem

My Sim only just started learning a new skill and has already maxed it out within a day.

Cause

The cause of this is a change EA had to make in the skill manager because of the new protest system. Protest can add a Increased Understanding moodlet to your Sim and while you have this, they learn faster.

To make sure this skill gain is retained when you save and reload your game, EA had make a change in the skill manager and … messed up. They changed a field that is responsible for the skill gaining when your Sim has a high mod. This skill gain is now also saved with your game and will never go away.

You don’t need University Life for this bug, it can also happen if you simply updated to Patch 1.50

Solution

None

Mods that help with the issue

  • Use Advanced \ Reset Sim on  MasterController V110 and newer (This is only temporary. You will have the skill gain back next time you load the game.)
  • Overwatch V92 and newer corrects this issue automatically during the cleanup operation.

After a week of doing the Bug Thread at the official Sims 3 forum, I have to say that UL has some major bugs that make the game unplayable for many. I did fear this could happen, since EA did recycle their fault WA code.

There are more reasons for the problems many are facing but a few were identified by now

What precautions should you take ?

  • Especially if you have a savegame that you have been playing forever, you should make a backup before installing UL or at least before you go to university for the first time.
  • Make sure your mods are up-to-date. There are many that haven’t been updated – including some of Twallans, since those are not updated to handle the Uni world itself.

The following tips should help to prevent some of the problems or to at least make sure that you don’t loose your precious family. For solutions what to do if you already have a problem, check the post on the issues.

Before sending your Sim to University, you should

  • Save your game under a new name (save as)
  • Move all photos from your cameras and smart phones to your inventory or you’ll loose them.
  • Wait for you Sim to get his High School diploma and attends the graduation before you send him off to University
  • Empty the mailbox so that there aren’t any love letters in there.

Before your Sim goes to the graduation party, you should

  • Save your game under a new name (save as)
  • Do not invite any family and friends to your party. This can lead to major problems and they hardly come anyways
  • Send your Sim off to the Anex early. There are often pile-ups that lead to your Sim not able to go in and fail to have the graduation.

Before your Sim is returning home, you should

  • Save your game under a new name (save as)
  • Move all photos from your cameras and smart phones to your inventory or you’ll loose them.
  • Empty the mailbox so that there aren’t any love letters in there.
  • Make sure that the returning home isn’t interrupted by anything (like a phone call) if possible.
