Refund for downloaded Games

Did you buy a new shiny game on Origin ? Did you play it but it was not what you expected ? Well, you can now return it despite being a digital download.

The Great Game Guarantee allows you to return EA digital game downloads (PC/Mac) purchased on Origin for a full refund within 24 hours after you first launch the game, within seven days from your date of purchase or within seven days from the game’s release date if you pre-purchased/pre-ordered, whichever comes first.

You do have have to decide pretty quickly if you are satisfied or not and there’s also some restrictions that apply:

  • DLC content is excluded. I do believe this means expansion packs, stuff packs and Store downloads in case of the Sims 3 are not included in the guarantee.
  • Only a few country are included in this deal so far. It’s not available for Germany/Austria or Switzerland.
  • I’m unsure if this applies to the DVD version of the game.

Further details can be found here: Great Game Guarantee.

It looks like a step in the right direction but could go further since 24 hours are a pretty short time frame to decide if you are satisfied with a game or not.
